Christie’s, New York; The Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale Tuesday 1 November

The Impressionist and Modern Art Evening Sale on 1 November The Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale on 1 November at Christie’s is led by a wonderful cast of Edgar Degas’s Petite danseuse de quatorze ans, perhaps the single most famous sculpture of the Impressionist era. It is joined in the sale by a wealth of other fine works in three dimensions, including an extremely rare cast of Brancusi’s Le premier cri and a suite of important lifetime casts by Alberto Giacometti. Picasso’s work throughout his career is represented by fine examples and the sale is particularly rich in works from the late 1930s among them two striking portraits of Marie-Thérèse and Dora Maar alongside a group of breathtaking works on paper. Surrealism is also a strong feature of the 1 November sale with a thrilling range of masterworks by artists such as Delvaux, Ernst and Magritte. Works of art from The Collection of Lew and Edie Wasserman, as well as the Museum of Modern Art and the Art Institute of Chicago, also contribute to the high level of quality throughout the sale.
